Gliding Gander arriving at Tony Van de Wal's farm in Rock Hall.

"Gliding Gander"- Past ABC Wide World of Sports Boat in 1980 and 1981. This boat was used by Mr. Curt Gowdy and Mr. Gad About Gaddis to film hunting and fishing trips on the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays. Gliding Gander is a Fiberglass 46' Lippencott, 19,900 lbs. displacement, 3'-3' draft, twin 3208 Caterpillar Engines, 210 HP each. Picture taken in July 2009 after just taken out of shink-wrap. Gliding Gander was in dry dock for two years after its last 4000 mile voyage throughout the Bahamas. Restoration will include a new larger cabin and flybridge, autopilot, additional tankage to provide a minimum safe cruising range of 425 statute miles.

Fiberglass work and design is being done under the watchful eye of Mr. Tony Van de Wal of AVFM, LLC of Rock Hall, Maryland. Mechanical and electrical work is being overseen by Mr. Scott Hyland of Hyland Marine, Kennedyville, MD.  Both of these gentlemen maintained Gliding Gander from the beginning and have proven themselves well.  I reccomend giving them a call for your next marine project or problem; just do not call them before Lea and I cast off with a completed boat!

My Step Granddaughter is something!!!!!!!!

The first step to making a blog is to know what you are doing. Therefore, I asked my twelve year old step granddaughter "Summer" for help. She immediately set this blog up for Lea and I. Hopefully, Summer will be able to teach us how to improve and use this site as time goes on. The goal is to give each of you an opportunity to follow the Gliding Gander Getaway from restoration throughout our upcoming cruise. We will leave the eastern shore of Maryland and tentatively travel through the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Leeward and Windward Islands, Granada, Trinidad, Venezuela, Aruba, including many other fine places too numerous to mention, and then back home. An anticipated journey of eight months and eight thousand miles. We hope to share pictures, videos and many stories with each of you as we go along. Hopefully, you will each check in from time to time and let us know how life is with each of you.

I hope you will get familiar with using Google Earth so you can plot our longitudes, latitudes, and attitudes as we go along.
